Installing your Pre-release app on Android [for testing]
What is an APK File?
Just like Windows PC systems use a .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software (usually games or apps) on the Android operating system.
How to install an APK file on your Android ?
1. Copy the apk to SD card. You can download it either from e-mail or by connecting your device to your local PC. It doesn’t matter where you put it as long as you remember the location.
2. If you don’t have a file manager on your mobile you can Download an app called “ES File Explorer or ASTRO File Manager” from the Play Store so you can locate the file.
3. Before you can actually install the APK file, you’ll need to tell your device that it can install any apps outside of the Play Store without throwing a fit. You can find this switch in your Settings –> Security –> Unknown Sources.
4. Once this is enabled, you’re clear to fire up your file browser, locate the APK file, and install it.
